Review of Sunêlia L’Hippocampe in Volonne

Sunêlia L’Hippocampe is a large 11 hectare site located in the heart of Haute Provence, at an altitude of 430 m, near Volonne. The campsite is in a park full of trees and flowers, on the edge of a lake/river with banks full of birds, offering you an amazing view of the surrounding hills of Provence.

Access to the site is reasonable, there is a narrowish bridge and a small village to drive through but easy enough with care. It offers spacious pitches of 100-130 m² on flat, grassy ground marked out by hedges. The pitches are easily accessed via wide roads around the site making it perfect for large motorhomes, RV’s and fifth wheels. Our larger pitch was facing the river so we had a great view for our whole stay.

There are several bathroom blocks at the campsite with spacious shower stalls, unlimited hot water, hairdryers, modern WC with toilet paper and washbasins adapted for children, baby bathtubs and stalls adapted for people with reduced mobility.

There are two large heated swimming pools, a large thermal whirlpool, a fun paddling pool, and several water slides. There is a park, and various sports facilities, football, basketball, ping pong, tennis and volleyball as well as canoe, paddle-board, boat and bike hire on the site.

There is an onsite restaurant (takeaway pizzas available), bar, ice cream stall, shop and fresh bread and croissants every morning.

WiFi was available from the site at a fee, we had issues with it dropping out every hour or so which was annoying. Phone signal was good.

There was a motorhome point but the area was quite narrow as it was between bushes making it hard/impossible to get out the van to dump. (I stayed outside the van and did the emptying myself.)

Lovely area with amazing views. There is a walk from the site around the lake but mostly along roads.
